
On January 30th, 2025, the much-anticipated launch of the R User Community Kumasi Technical University (KSTU) Chapter took place at the SRC Hall of KSTU under the theme “Empowering Innovations: Uniting TVET for National Development”. The event brought together industry leaders, students, and faculty to celebrate the power of data science and its potential to drive innovation and national development.
The event kicked off with an opening prayer by Professor Felix Engmann, setting the tone for a day of inspiration and collaboration. Following this, Professor Smart A. Sarpong, the welcoming voice of the gathering, delivered an address that emphasized the significance of technological education and community building in the era of rapid advancements in data science.
Dr. Bismark Quaku Parker also shared insights that highlighted the importance of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in shaping the future of national development, and how initiatives like the R User Community are integral to bridging the gap between education and industry.
The ceremony featured a keynote address by Mr. Francis Mensah, founder of the Ghana R Users Community, who delivered an inspiring speech on the transformative power of R programming and the role the community plays in empowering individuals and communities with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in the data science landscape.
The Vice Chancellor of KSTU, Professor Gabriel Dwomoh, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the university’s commitment to equipping students with relevant skills that are essential for the job market and national development. His message further underscored the importance of collaborations between academia and industry in fostering innovation and progress.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Mary Aka-Eere, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the launch and the future of the R User Community at KSTU. The closing prayer by Dr. John Agyei brought the event to a heartfelt close, leaving attendees with a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm for the work ahead.
